During a long interview with Motorsport.com Italy, Charles Leclerc revisited what happened during the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit last month. The race was marked by very variable weather, with rain and clear skies alternating multiple times within just two hours, making the strategists’ job very difficult.
However, what raised suspicions was the communication management between the two Ferrari drivers. Carlos Sainz was informed by Riccardo Adami that the rain would come later in the race, so he wasn’t brought into the pits, avoiding a disruption to his strategy. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc’s new race engineer, Bryan Bozzi, told him that the rain would intensify within a few minutes, leading the Monegasque driver to pit for intermediate tires. Below are Charles Leclerc’s comments.
Charles Leclerc Analyzes the Silverstone Error
In an interview with Italian journalist Roberto Chinchero, Charles Leclerc said about what happened at Silverstone: “We have reviewed everything that happened, but I won’t go into too much detail; let’s just say we discussed it as a team. We must not forget that Bryan Bozzi did an incredible job stepping into a difficult role mid-season, and we know we still have some work to do together.” – the Monegasque driver explained.
“At Silverstone, it was one of the first times we encountered atypical conditions. Even in Montreal, the situation was similar, but in that case, power unit issues significantly influenced our choices. So I think Silverstone was probably the first time we found ourselves in a very particular situation, and it became clear that we still need to improve our communication. It’s part of the work that Bryan and I need to do together. Going back to the British GP, was it the right thing to do? No, it wasn’t, and I was clear about that. But since then, we have worked very well together, and we don’t want what happened at Silverstone to happen again.” – the Ferrari driver concluded.
