Leo Turrini reflects on Ferrari’s challenging Dutch Grand Prix
Ferrari faced a tough weekend at Zandvoort, marked by a painful double retirement for Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
Leo Turrini’s Analysis
Leo Turrini shared his insights on the Dutch Grand Prix through his Profondo Rosso blog and the Sky Race Anatomy broadcast.
He stated: “There’s no need to beat around the bush. It’s not Hamilton’s fault that Ferrari built the wrong car. But it is his fault for crashing—he was the only driver on track to hit the wall in those wet conditions. Not even Franco Colapinto made that same mistake.
“So the big question returns: Does Lewis still believe in himself? Does he think he can always be a key player in Formula 1? Or has he mentally switched off, already satisfied with glory and wealth? Perhaps a hint will emerge at Monza in a few days, where he will serve a five-place grid penalty for ignoring a double yellow flag during the pre-race reconnaissance laps.”
Leo Turrini drew a stark contrast when talking about Leclerc: “The story is entirely different, actually opposite, for Charles, who was taken out by the uncontrolled impulse of Kimi Antonelli. Up until that moment, Kimi was having one of his best races, and ‘Carletto’ had been absolutely brilliant.”
He admitted: “I must confess, the image of Leclerc watching the rest of the race as a spectator, sitting on a picnic chair, was deeply melancholy.
“It felt as if he was reflecting on a career spent for a love, Ferrari, that was never truly reciprocated. Because the Cavallino never really gave Carletto a world-championship car. At the very least, they could have given him a blessing!”
Despite the “opposite fates” of Ferrari’s two drivers so far, Leo Turrini noted that in the Monza week, they will share a common goal: to delight the Tifosi with a strong result.
A feat like the one Charles Leclerc achieved last year is, at present, just a distant hope. Yet perhaps the energy of the home Grand Prix could inspire both Ferraris toward a remarkable turnaround.
