Ferrari was flying in Monaco but it wasn’t enough to beat Lando Norris’ McLaren. Charles Leclerc will start only in second, but he isn’t disheartened: the race is long.
Despite the immense support from the home crowd and a brilliant performance in qualifying, Charles Leclerc will have to settle for second place on the grid for the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix. The Monegasque Ferrari driver was beaten only by Lando Norris but didn’t hide a hint of frustration for a pole position that slipped away by a small margin.
“Second place isn’t a bad result”
“There’s always something more you can do, right? But in the end, this was the best performance possible today,” Leclerc commented. “The lap was really good. The first run was a bit unfortunate, I had traffic in the second sector and that takes away some confidence for the second attempt.”
Ferrari doesn’t start as the favorite for the win, but Charles pointed out that the feeling with the car had been positive throughout the weekend, leaving a glimmer of optimism: “Obviously I’m frustrated. We know that this year we still don’t have the car to aim for victory every weekend, but here the package worked well. Starting second on this track makes it tricky to get ahead, but it’s not a bad result.”
Charles Leclerc’s relationship with his home track is well established: despite the misfortunes of past years, Charles continues to shine among the barriers of the Principality: “I don’t really know why, but I love street circuits. I enjoy giving it my all in qualifying, pushing the limits. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn’t, but today I’m still proud of what we achieved. On paper it was supposed to be a tough weekend, but it didn’t go that badly after all.”
With a Ferrari on the front row and a solid performance, Scuderia fans can hope for a leading role on Sunday through the streets of the Principality.
