In the second European round of the F1 World Championship, Lando Norris clinched pole in the Monaco GP qualifying with an extraordinary lap, ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and teammate Oscar Piastri. McLaren took the top spot in the final attempt of Q3, while Ferrari is left chasing.
Q1
In the first qualifying segment, all drivers went out on soft tires, except the two Alpines who opted for mediums. The track improved rapidly throughout the session, with lap times dropping steadily. During Q1, Oscar Piastri clipped the wall but didn’t sustain noticeable damage. George Russell and Charles Leclerc completed the entire session with just one set of softs. Charles Leclerc ended Q1 fastest (1:11.229), ahead of Norris and Piastri. Lewis Hamilton finished the session in sixth. Andrea Kimi Antonelli brought out a red flag at the end and will not take part in Q2.
Eliminated: Bortoleto, Bearman, Gasly, Stroll, and Colapinto.
Lewis Hamilton will be investigated after the session for impeding Max Verstappen.
Q2
Ferrari started Q2 on medium tires with both drivers. McLaren chose to stick with softs. The session was halted shortly after it began when George Russell experienced an electrical failure and couldn’t restart his car. Both Mercedes cars will start from 14th and 15th on the grid. After the red flag, Leclerc and Hamilton switched to softs. Norris set the fastest time in Q2 (1:10.570), ahead of Leclerc and Williams’ Alexander Albon.
