Sebastian Vettel supports Lewis Hamilton
The historic partnership between Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari is not going as expected. Understandably, all drivers — even the elite — need an adaptation period, especially when switching teams after more than a decade, but results on track are lacking. Despite being the only Ferrari driver to have won a race so far this season, the seven-time world champion is 12 points behind Charles Leclerc and had shown a very concerning gap to the Monegasque driver in the races leading up to Miami.
Sebastian Vettel, who knows Lewis Hamilton very well, is confident that the #44 will know how to handle this challenging period with the Scuderia.
Sebastian Vettel’s words
“He hasn’t had a dream start, but I think he’s had a very realistic approach. Even if things aren’t going well right now, you can tell he knows how to manage his experience and the situation,” the German told his compatriots at RTL. “I think at the moment Ferrari isn’t as strong as he and many others would like. You can’t always choose, but he’s had a lot of ups and downs. If there’s someone who can make it, it’s him. Naturally, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Lewis: I raced with him throughout my time in Formula 1, and that’s why we’re very close.” – the former Ferrari and Red Bull driver pointed pointed out.
Team radio tension in Miami
Lewis Hamilton’s difficulties aren’t only technical but also relational. In Miami, the first real cracks emerged between Sir Lewis and the team, with a series of sarcastic team radio messages about track position management with Charles Leclerc making headlines around the world and highlighting his great frustration behind the wheel of the Ferrari SF-25. It will be very interesting to see how his relationship with the team evolves already starting from Imola — and whether the warmth of the home crowd and upcoming upgrades will be enough to calm the waters.
