Charles Leclerc forgets Carlos Sainz won a race: hilarious incident from Grill the Grid 2023

Grill the Grid 2023 has just kicked off, promising ample amusement. For several years now, Formula 1 has created timed challenges to test the drivers. They are asked to name championship winners or rank them by age, from youngest to oldest.

The first challenge of Grill the Grid 2023 required drivers to name a Formula 1 race winner for each letter of the alphabet (from A to Z). Each correct answer earns a point, and they have two minutes to complete the task. How did our heroes fare? Not particularly well.

“Usually, I call them Carlos, Lewis… It’s hard to use only surnames; they don’t immediately come to mind!” exclaimed Charles Leclerc at the beginning of the challenge video, which you can find on the Formula 1 YouTube profile.

“I suddenly forgot all their surnames!” Max Verstappen admitted.

From the very first letters, it’s noticeable that many drivers forget the names of historical winners like Rubens Barrichello and David Coulthard.

As Charles Leclerc mentioned at the beginning of the video, the most evident difficulty is recalling the surnames of the drivers on the spot, even the ones currently on the grid, like Pierre Gasly, who slipped everyone’s mind.

Some omitted their former teammates, like Fernando Alonso. When it was the turn for the letter “O,” the Spanish driver deliberately skipped – given the disputes between him and his former Alpine teammate, nothing surprising there.

On the other hand, some forgot their own teammates, as Charles Leclerc did not remember that Carlos Sainz had won his first and only race at Silverstone in 2022.

The most self-absorbed ones named themselves. Among them, when their turn came, were Charles Leclerc and Sergio Pérez. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz invented a new winner: Olonso!
