In Monza, Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc had a very special Saturday. After suffering physical problems, the Monegasque took part in the sprint qualifying race finishing in sixth place, 23 seconds behind the winner in the Mercedes jersey, Valtteri Bottas. Weakened and probably not too satisfied, he found himself fighting on a track that does not reward the current Ferrari SF21 car. It is not known if the future will be brighter: in the meantime, however, Charles Leclerc still feels happy in Maranello and would be ready for a further extension of the contract until 2026.
“At least there is good news for depressed Ferrari fans. Carletto Leclerc is ready to extend his contract with the Maranello team until 2026, a deal currently expiring at the end of 2024. Obviously, there is no rush, there is no shortage of time to update the terms of the agreement. But the availability confidentially shown by the Prince of Monaco is an important signal. Charles Leclerc is a Ferrari driver inside. The Maranello team has made an investment in him ever since Charles was a kid. And Leclerc immediately became connected to the environment, ever since he was entrusted to the tutelage of Andrea Bertolini, historic test driver of the Reds. In this season, Charles was able to score two extraordinary poles in Monte Carlo and Baku. But it is precisely two years, since the 2019 Italian Grand Prix, that the boy has not climbed the top step of the podium. But he believes in the project, despite appearances. Above all, he hasn’t changed his mind: he intends to win the world championship dressed in Red. For this reason, when a Red Bull emissary tried to approach him in the spring, the young man cordially declined.” – Italian sports journalist and Ferrari insider Leo Turrini wrote in the Italian newspaper based in Bologna ‘il Resto del Carlino’.
There is therefore a good chance that Charles Leclerc will be able to become an iconic driver for Scuderia Ferrari, even if the driver market often takes unpredictable paths. In turn, Ferrari chooses stability, while in terms of results it will certainly have to ‘change’ style, for the better.
