Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc expressed his worries regarding the Maranello team’s inability to resolve the issue that plagued his SF-23 single-seater during the qualifying session for the Spanish Grand Prix, which was held at the Circuit de Catalunya two weeks ago.
Throughout qualifying, Charles Leclerc’s car exhibited a noticeable lack of rear-end grip, resulting in a twitchy and unstable performance. As a consequence, he qualified in the 19th position and failed to secure any points during the race, finishing in 11th place. The Monegasque had suspicions that the car might have been affected by an underlying issue throughout the entire weekend. However, a thorough inspection conducted after the race revealed no apparent problems with his SF-23.
“This is the first time that it happened in my career,” ex explained during the press conference for the Canadian Grand Prix on Thursday – “If I look at all the left-hand corners, that’s where I was struggling and I said it straightaway after qualifying. [Then] we could see that on the data that I’m losing some six-and-a-half or seven-tenths in all the left-hand corners, but there are no real reasons for it yet. This is a little bit more worrying and that’s where we need to push and try to understand the reasons, because the feeling was really, really bad.” – the Ferrari man added.
The Maranello team, having implemented numerous modifications to its car during the Spanish Grand Prix, has decided against introducing any fresh upgrades for the upcoming race in Canada.
Charles Leclerc remains realistic about the Italian side’s prospects at a circuit renowned for its challenging tire degradation. However, he believes that the data gathered from the race will provide valuable insights for the team’s understanding and development:

“At this track we don’t have anything new so I don’t think we’ll have any miracles. But we need to just try and understand more the way we should set up the car in order to maximise our package. In Spain we were quite easily off the [setup] window and then we’re losing quite a lot of performance. We’ve learned a lot and I’m pretty sure we’ll be in a better place for this weekend.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
