No one at Ferrari has yet officially announced when the much-anticipated and longed-for updates for the SF-24 single-seater will arrive, those components that, in the fans’ imagination, should at least bring the Reds back into the fight for the podium against Red Bull and Mercedes.
But often, there is more than an ocean between expectations and reality. While Scuderia Ferrari is aiming for a maximized result on the challenging Zandvoort track in the Dutch Grand Prix later today, the team back in Maranello is preparing the aerodynamic update package that should, at least in part, debut at the Monza circuit in the Italian Grand Prix, the home race of the Prancing Horse.
These aerodynamic updates are eagerly awaited by everyone, especially the drivers, who have seen nearly two months of races slip through their fingers, giving the Maranello team time to understand the problems, find solutions, and think of something that could make them fast again, returning to the fight for podiums and victories.
“As a team, we are aware of the situation we are going through. We are working hard on the updates that we will be able to install on the car soon, and I hope they can bring us closer to those ahead,” said Charles Leclerc at Zandvoort at the end of the qualifying session on Saturday.
In recent years, Ferrari has often struggled to develop updates significant enough to improve their cars in a meaningful way. That’s why Leclerc refrained from making predictions, leaving the judgment to time.
“I hope the new components that will arrive can help us take a step forward. How big that step will be, only time will tell. Here at Zandvoort, we will have to fight to bring home as many points as possible. That’s the only achievable goal until the updates arrive that can help us move further up,” concluded the winner of the 2024 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.
