Ferrari faces a setback at Silverstone
The ninth and tenth places achieved at the Silverstone circuit are certainly not the expected result for Scuderia Ferrari in the British Grand Prix. To make that light at the end of the tunnel grow brighter, there is still a long way to go, and the SF-23 learned it the hard way today among the high-speed corners of the English circuit, which already did not invite optimism for the Scuderia from Maranello beforehand.
It was known that Ferrari would race more defensively compared to Canada and Austria, but perhaps the strategic management of the second part of the race could have been better if the result is a SF-23 behind not only Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes but also an unrecognizable Aston Martin and a surprising Williams. However, Charles Leclerc does not want to criticize the team: the Monegasque driver emphasizes that the pace in the race was not as expected.
Charles Leclerc’s comments
“A car that did not perform well? We didn’t have much tire degradation, but the pace was not there. We stopped a bit early, maybe because George wanted to do the opposite to us, but if we had stayed on track, he would have pitted. If it’s for that reason, I understand why we pitted early. Then we were also unlucky with the Safety Car, we were overtaken by many cars there,” these were Charles Leclerc’s words to Sky Sport F1.
“After the Safety Car, it was impossible to overtake. I had the pace, but passing was impossible because even Alex Albon in front had DRS every lap. It was impossible to make a pass. The main problem was the rhythm. We struggled in the fast corners, especially in terms of traction compared to the others around us. We paid the price,” added the Monegasque driver. “No red tire at the pit stop? I have no doubts about that, the medium was the right choice. I had the new medium tire, and I’m sure it performed better than the old soft tire. There was a DRS train ahead, and there was little to do.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded at the end of the British Grand Prix.
