What a feat
Pure magic. Charles Leclerc secured the second position in the Las Vegas Grand Prix by managing to outsmart Sergio Perez at the end of the Strip straight with a legendary braking move on the last of the fifty laps that made up the race in the city of Nevada.
In a future article we will also dissect some stunning data: Charles Leclerc, with DRS and slipstream, reaches a speed of 354 km/h before braking, compared to Sergio Perez’s 332 km/h. Despite the impressive 22 km/h higher speed, the Monegasque brakes even a few meters later (between 3 and 5 meters according to our calculations) than the Mexican, making a violent stop without overshooting or locking up. Charles Leclerc’s braking would have even exceeded 7G of deceleration (compared to Sergio Perez’s 4.1G).
Canal+ commentator goes wild
Charles Leclerc’s overtake sent Canal+ commentator Julien Fébreau into raptures, who had already made the final lap of Pierre Gasly at Monza in 2020 memorable when the French driver won at the wheel of AlphaTauri, resisting the comeback of Carlos Sainz (at that moment a McLaren driver), reconnecting the threads of history with Sebastian Vettel‘s triumph with Toro Rosso at the Temple of Speed in 2008. Below is the video of the final moments with Fébreau’s enthusiastic commentary.

“A crazy braking move,” Julien Fébreau’s words, who had already followed Charles Leclerc’s ‘gallop’ down the straight, first with the slipstream and then opening the DRS. The Ferrari driver’s overtaking was a true masterpiece, a maneuver that earned him ‘only’ second place but provided a memorable thrill to the fans who followed the Las Vegas Grand Prix, a race that remained gripping until the last meter, thanks to the Monegasque driver’s determination.
