A second and third place weren’t enough for Ferrari to bring home a Constructors’ title that has been absent from Maranello since the distant 2008. Despite Charles Leclerc’s incredible recovery, Ferrari came away defeated from the Abu Dhabi GP.
After a penalty and being eliminated in Q2, the Monegasque driver started from 19th position and managed to finish in third place, right behind Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz.
It was an unimaginable result before the race, with the same Ferrari team considering fifth place the best possible outcome. For this reason, there is great disappointment for not managing to pull off the championship victory, and it will take time to get over it.
Charles Leclerc satisfied with the performance
At the end of the Abu Dhabi GP, Charles Leclerc appeared both disappointed with the result and satisfied with Ferrari’s performance. “We did our best. I don’t think we could have done more,” said the Monegasque driver.
“It hurts because, after a race like that, you end up so close to the goal without reaching it. We did an incredible job. I think throughout the season, we worked well, and winning the title would have been important for me, for Carlos, and for the whole team,” added Charles Leclerc.
“McLaren was incredible, and they deserve everything. I would have loved to finish the fourth year with Carlos winning the title since it has been an amazing four years, and there’s a lot of disappointment,” concluded number 16 after the race which was held at the 5.281-kilometre Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island.
