Carlos Sainz finished as runner-up in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, closing his Ferrari chapter with a final podium and moving on, confident he is leaving behind a team ready to claim triumph next season.
Season Analysis: Carlos Sainz Reflects on 2024
Speaking to Sky, Carlos Sainz—soon to don the blue of Williams—offered his assessment of the 2024 season and his overall Ferrari tenure. Addressing McLaren’s championship-winning performance, he acknowledged the superiority of their car over the course of the year:
“Even though they weren’t at their best at the start, from Miami onwards, they were consistently the fastest. We had circuits where we were strong and secured victories, but on average, everyone knows McLaren had the strongest car this year. When all the drivers are within a tenth, it’s the car that makes the difference. Eventually, the fastest car wins. Even they missed many opportunities this year.”
Carlos Sainz applauded Ferrari’s resilience, commending the Maranello team for their unwavering belief and ability to rebound from challenging moments:
“I’m happy and proud of how Ferrari fought for this championship until the end. The fact that we had a chance in the final race, despite everything we suffered mid-season, says a lot about the year we tried to deliver.”
Reflecting on his personal performance, Carlos Sainz expressed pride in maintaining his focus during a challenging farewell campaign:
“This final year wasn’t easy after the news of my departure. Racing an entire season knowing I’d be leaving wasn’t simple, and keeping my concentration as high as I did was tough. We’ve seen other drivers in similar situations struggle to stay fully focused. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished.”
Regrets About Leaving Before a Promising 2025 Formula 1 season
As he says goodbye to Ferrari, Carlos Sainz is satisfied with the efforts made to elevate the Maranello team:
“Over these four years, I would have liked to win more—more championships and more races in general. But given the circumstances, I think we’ve done an excellent job. I’m proud to leave Ferrari in a much better place than when I arrived. The work Charles and I have done together as teammates has been crucial. I believe Ferrari will be capable of winning the championship next year.” – the future Williams driver concluded at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
