At the end of a very challenging 2025 Formula 1 British Grand Prix at the historic Silverstone Circuit, Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc shared his disappointment and concerns following a race filled with strategic errors and car performance issues. The Monegasque driver finished a distant fourteenth, far outside the points, after struggling throughout the race in tricky mixed weather conditions.
It was a Sunday to forget for Charles Leclerc, who was one of the few drivers to take the bold decision of starting from the pit lane on dry-weather slick tyres. The choice proved costly. As rain continued to fall intermittently and parts of the track remained damp, Charles Leclerc found himself slipping backwards, forced into a difficult recovery drive from the back of the field—one that never truly materialized.
Making matters worse, Charles Leclerc also suffered from rear tyre temperature issues that severely impacted the balance and drivability of his SF-25 car. These problems added frustration to an already compromised race and made his afternoon in the cockpit even more challenging.
Charles Leclerc’s Post-Race Comments at Silverstone
Speaking after the chequered flag, Charles Leclerc reflected on what went wrong. “As for the decision to start the race on slick tyres, I saw that the first two sectors of the lap were quite dry,” he explained. “I thought with the sun out, the third sector would dry out quickly as well. It was a bad call in the end, but what worries me most is the lack of pace. Lewis Hamilton was much faster than me, and we need to understand why that was the case.”
Charles Leclerc also admitted that he had been experimenting with extreme setup choices in recent races. “For a few Grands Prix now, I’ve been taking a more extreme direction with car setup. It seems to pay off in dry conditions, but clearly not in the wet,” the Ferrari driver acknowledged.
Looking ahead to the upcoming filming day at Mugello and the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps after the short summer break, Leclerc did not want to make any predictions. “Right now I’m very disappointed,” he said. “I just want to go back to the motorhome and speak with my engineers, because I struggled a lot out there today—something major must have gone wrong. I was at risk of crashing at almost every corner. It was a very difficult race.”
Charles Leclerc will now hope that the team can analyze the data and understand the underlying causes of Ferrari’s struggles, as they prepare for the next phase of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship.
