Leclerc: “I’m sorry for Antonelli, but sometimes you need a bit of luck. I’m happy for everyone who suffered with me”
The Ferrari driver returned to winning ways for the first time since the 2024 United States Grand Prix.
Leclerc conquers Silverstone
Charles Leclerc is back on the top step of the Formula 1 podium. The Ferrari driver claimed victory at the British Grand Prix, ending a winless streak that had stretched back to the 2024 United States Grand Prix.
The 25 points collected at Silverstone also keep Charles Leclerc firmly in the fight for the World Championship. The standings have tightened after championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli failed to score any points.
The Mercedes driver had looked on course to challenge Charles Leclerc for the lead and potentially fight for victory, but a technical problem dropped him down the order. To make matters worse, Antonelli was also handed a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits—mistakes that were reportedly caused by the technical issue—which ultimately pushed him out of the points.
“I’m sorry for Antonelli, but sometimes you need a bit of luck,” Charles Leclerc told Sky. “I put myself out there a little yesterday by saying that I had found my feeling again, and it was the same in the race. I’ve worked really hard over the past few weeks.”
Reflecting on the closing laps, Charles Leclerc added: “When the Safety Car came out at the end, it felt like every time I’m about to win a race, something happens. I’m happy for myself, for the team, and for everyone who has suffered with me over the last few races.”
