The Monaco Grand Prix arrives at a particularly happy moment for Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque driver heads into the most important weekend of his season with extra motivation following his recent contract renewal with Ferrari, which has further strengthened a relationship set to continue for many years.
For Leclerc, this is far more than a simple contract extension. His bond with the Prancing Horse is rooted in a passion that predates his Formula 1 career and continues to be the main driving force behind his sporting ambitions. On the eve of his home race in the Principality, the number 16 did not hide his satisfaction with the agreement reached with the Maranello-based team.
“I am very motivated and very happy to continue this journey we are building together over the next few years. There have certainly been ups and downs, but I am really happy that this story continues. Ferrari has always been my favourite team, and I want to carry on this mission: to win the World Championship with the team I love the most, Ferrari. Monaco is my favourite circuit of the year, it is also my favourite weekend, so I hope to enjoy it.”
These words confirm how central the Ferrari project remains in the Monegasque driver’s career. Despite the difficulties experienced in recent years and missed opportunities in the fight for world titles, Charles Leclerc continues to see Ferrari as the ideal place to chase the most important goal of his career.
Monaco, a race that goes beyond Formula 1
For any driver, the Monaco Grand Prix is a special event. For Charles Leclerc, who was born and raised in the Principality, it carries an even deeper and more personal meaning.
The memories that come to mind for the Ferrari driver are not only linked to racing on home streets, but above all to his childhood spent in close contact with one of the most iconic events in world motorsport.
“It is mainly the emotions I felt as a child, when I used to hear the Formula 1 cars passing while I was at school. That is the first feeling that comes back to me, the strongest memory. There is something very special about it, also because living in Monte Carlo you see the build-up of the Grand Prix for months, so the anticipation is felt much more than for other races.”
The relationship between Monaco and Leclerc is therefore built on a unique emotional connection. The gradual transformation of the street circuit, the infrastructure taking shape in the heart of the city, and the atmosphere growing week after week have been part of his daily life since childhood.
The new cars could enhance the Principality circuit
The 2026 Monaco Grand Prix will also be the first run under the new technical regulations. The current generation of cars has been designed to be more compact, lighter, and more responsive compared to the ground-effect era, characteristics that could suit the unique nature of the Monaco street circuit particularly well.
According to Charles Leclerc, the Principality track could be one of the ideal venues to showcase the strengths of the new generation of Formula 1 cars.
“I think this is one of the tracks that will suit these cars quite well, because energy management will not be such a determining factor: there are so many corners and therefore many good places to recover energy. Also, because of the weight, these are more agile cars, and on a track like this, made almost entirely of slow corners, I think it will be a lot of fun. I can’t wait to try them on track.”
The Ferrari driver’s analysis focuses mainly on energy management and the increased agility provided by the reduced size of the cars. In a setting defined by low-speed corners, constant direction changes, and virtually no margin for error, these factors could contribute to making the driving experience even more spectacular.
With a newly renewed contract, the backing of his boyhood team, and his home race approaching, Charles Leclerc arrives in Monaco with a highly significant backdrop. The stated goal remains unchanged: to win the World Championship he has been chasing for years and to do it in Ferrari red. An ambition further strengthened by his new deal, confirming the mutual desire to continue a story that, in Charles Leclerc’s vision, still has its most important chapter ahead.
