At Silverstone, which marks the halfway point of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc provided a candid assessment of the Italian team’s season so far, outlining both the challenges encountered and the expectations moving forward.
During the media day for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Monegasque racing driver Charles Leclerc offered an honest evaluation of the first half of the season for Scuderia Ferrari. He openly acknowledged that the performance of the Ferrari SF-25 single-seater has so far fallen short of pre-season expectations. However, the current fifth-placed driver in the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship standings also suggested that the most difficult phase of the season may now be behind them.
“It has been a very tough first part of the season for us, below what we had expected. We ended last year fighting for race wins and even challenging for the Constructors’ title, so we were hoping to start the 2025 season on a similar level, but unfortunately that did not happen.”
Ferrari pushing with updates to close the gap
Despite the underwhelming start to the campaign, Charles Leclerc remains cautiously optimistic, thanks to recent car developments and upcoming upgrades that are expected to improve competitiveness. The Monegasque driver emphasized that the technical development path now seems to be heading in the right direction.
“We’re now finding the right direction with the upgrades, which have already helped us take some steps forward. We know that more important updates are coming—I hope very soon—and these should allow us to close the gap to McLaren and Red Bull. Mercedes, meanwhile, has been more inconsistent with highs and lows.” – he pointed out.
Indeed, the Scuderia Ferrari team has struggled to consistently match the pace of the McLaren team, which currently dominates the championship standings, and Red Bull, whose performance has fluctuated throughout the season. Nevertheless, Ferrari remains firmly in the fight for second place in the Constructors’ Championship, currently trailing Mercedes by just a single point.
Charles Leclerc remains optimistic about Ferrari’s potential
Despite the points deficit accumulated over the course of the first ten races of the season, Charles Leclerc ended his remarks on a hopeful note. He expressed confidence that the relentless work being carried out by the Maranello-based team will soon pay off in upcoming races: “I expect the second part of the season to be much brighter than the first.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
With a steadily improving Ferrari SF-25 and the championship standings still wide open, Charles Leclerc is aiming to reestablish himself as a frontrunner and bring the iconic red car back to the front rows of the Formula 1 grid.
