Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc recalled the most important moment of his motorsport career: the one when he signed his first contract with the Maranello team.
This fantastic moment was even more bittersweet due to a white lie he told his father, as he recounted to *The Gentleman’s Journal*.
Charles Leclerc had told his father that he had already signed with Ferrari in 2017 when an illness had left his father Hervé with only a few days to live.
What was a white lie at the time became reality 15 months later, when he was announced as a Ferrari driver for 2019.
Charles Leclerc’s comments
This is the memory of the Monegasque driver: “I knew how important it was for us, and we had gone through the whole journey together.”
“It was very difficult for me to accept that he left before I signed my first contract as a Formula 1 driver.”
“At first, I was very angry with myself for lying to him, but then, fortunately, I signed the real contract.” – he pointed out.
“I was realizing my dream, but I was also very happy for him, that I hadn’t lied to him,” Charles Leclerc said in conclusion.
Now, this touching story of Charles Leclerc needs only one happy ending: winning the world championship title driving for Ferrari.
