The Duel Between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc
Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc are the kings—or perhaps mayors—of street circuits in 2024. While the rivalry between the Ferrari driver and the Red Bull world champion, who claimed his fourth title this season, has yet to fully ignite, the two battled for the unofficial crown of the best F1 driver on tracks surrounded by walls and manhole covers. Neither, however, managed to definitively outshine the other.
A Close Tie Between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc
The data is intriguing, with Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen tied at the top of the special ranking for points scored across the eight non-permanent circuits—those typically open to road traffic—on the 2024 F1 calendar. Both drivers lead the statistic with 122 points each, averaging 15.25 points per street circuit race. Lando Norris, who comfortably secured the title of “Driver of the Day,” is just one point behind in third place with 121.
F1 Street Circuits 2024 Ranking
Applying the standard championship rules, which consider victories and podium finishes in case of a tie, the “super mayor” of street circuits is Max Verstappen. The Dutchman claimed wins in Jeddah and Montreal, while Leclerc only triumphed once, at his “home” race in Monaco. Norris also secured two victories, in Miami and Singapore, while the remaining wins were shared between Carlos Sainz (Melbourne), Oscar Piastri (Baku), and George Russell (Las Vegas).
Fourth place in the street circuit ranking goes to Piastri with 101 points, followed by George Russell and Carlos Sainz. The highest-ranked driver without a victory is Lewis Hamilton, seventh with 58 points, though he’s poised to dominate in the “wealthiest drivers” statistic. The ranking is rounded out by Sergio Perez (48), Fernando Alonso (36), and Yuki Tsunoda (19).
Among the teams, McLaren tops the standings, reflecting the Constructors’ Championship results. The Woking team amassed 222 points and three victories, with Ferrari second at 197, followed by Red Bull (170) and Mercedes (147).
