Ferrari can count on Fred
Thursday in Monaco naturally placed much of the spotlight on hometown hero Charles Leclerc, who recently signed a new multi-year contract extension with Ferrari. The Monegasque driver made it clear that one of the key reasons behind his decision to continue his journey with the Scuderia, alongside his deep affection for the team, was his strong relationship with team principal Frederic Vasseur.
Charles Leclerc described the Frenchman as “the person capable of bringing Ferrari back to the top”, underlining the confidence he has in the direction the team is taking under Fred Vasseur’s leadership.
The same message was reinforced during an interview with Nice-Matin.
“I believe in the project. I have enormous trust in Fred. You know the bond we share, it is very strong and very special. He supported my rise through GP3 and then my debut in Formula 1. Today, I feel there is great momentum, and I want to continue this adventure. And achieve my dream of becoming world champion with Ferrari,” Charles Leclerc said.
And Hamilton too…
Lewis Hamilton also spoke in highly positive terms about the atmosphere within Ferrari during Thursday’s media sessions in Monte Carlo. The seven-time world champion highlighted the strong working relationship he shares not only with Charles Leclerc but also with the wider team.
“I think Charles and I work well together, and I think we collaborate well with the team. I think we are pushing the team forward, together with Fred and the other incredible people working behind the scenes, such as the engineers who are working so hard on the car.
“I think we work really well together, and there is great harmony within the team,” Lewis Hamilton explained.
As Lewis Hamilton himself has hinted on several occasions in recent weeks, the British driver is also expected to remain a Ferrari driver in 2027, providing further continuity to the Scuderia’s long-term ambitions as it seeks to return to the top of Formula 1.
