The Miami weekend is ready to kick off. During the media day, Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc, who commented, among other things, on the news of Adrian Newey’s possible arrival at the Maranello team.

How happy would you be if Adrian came to Ferrari?
“Obviously, I would be very happy. I think Adrian is one of those guys in the paddock that you hope to work with one day in your career. At Ferrari, we have an incredible team at the moment, and in the last seven to eight months, we have been the team that has made the most progress. However, adding Adrian to a team like this would be fantastic.”

It seems that from the outside, the team is becoming a much more convincing project, both with the signing of Lewis and with a new long-term contract for you as well. Do you think it’s possible for the team to convince Adrian? Does it seem more realistic than it was 12 months or two years ago?
“Definitely. I think I’ve already said it in recent months. I think we are in a very positive moment for the team. Fred has always shared with me his medium to long-term vision, and I have shared with him what I thought was the right thing. It’s going very well.”

“I think we are in a good position to attract the best collaborators in the world. However, I’ve already said it, we are already a great team, and in the last seven to eight months, we have made incredible progress. Anyone who can come and make it even stronger is very important, and Adrian is one of those who can make a difference.”

Where do you think the impulse came from to transform the team in this period of time?
“I believe Fred’s vision and his ability to put people in the right environment to get the best out of everyone is something truly extraordinary and has made the difference. This, along with a very clear vision of what the main points we need to focus on are. This helps the team to focus all its energies only on one or two aspects. But then you immediately see the result, which is positive. So clarity and putting people in the best possible environment to get the best out of them.”

What was Ferrari’s reaction to the news of the day when Adrian Newey left Red Bull? Do you think Red Bull will be weaker without him?
“I was surprised, I didn’t expect it. It was interesting news and one of those that makes a lot of noise once it comes out, I found it everywhere on my social media.”

“Will it weaken Red Bull? In every team, there are many people involved, but some figures in a team make more difference than others, and I think Adrian is definitely one of those. He has shown it with his track record every time he has been in a team. It’s hard for me to comment because I don’t know exactly how it works inside the team. Obviously, Adrian, being on the engineers’ market, is definitely someone to keep an eye on and everyone in the paddock will want him on their team.”
