Only a seventh place for Charles Leclerc in the qualifying session for the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix, as the Monegasque driver finished very close behind Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris. A shame for Charles and for Ferrari, who had the potential to grab the second row instead now has to manage a race that looks to be very difficult: on the Hungaroring it is very difficult to overtake and from the fourth row it will take half a miracle to change the destinies of the race weekend. For Charles Leclerc, a partial explanation of the seventh place comes from the wind, which made the rear particularly unstable and for this reason he risked going into a spin like teammate Carlos Sainz. Here are Charles Leclerc’s words immediately after qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
“Too bad for this outcome, but today we struggled more, at least I struggled from Q2 onwards. The first lap in Q2 was very difficult, the rear moved a lot with the change in wind. Afterwards we struggled to adapt to these new conditions. Today we could not do any better then seventh place, the race pace is good but this is a track where it is difficult to overtake. It’s a bit complicated now” – he said, in an interview for Sky Sport F1 – “I spoke to Carlos a little while ago, about the crash he just told me that he lost his car at the last corner, but I talked more with him about the conditions, because they were very difficult. I almost got surprised too, but I was luckier than him. The race pace is there, but to prove it you have to be in front of the train, while for now we are behind. That will be the hard part. From the start there is always a lot to gain, but also a lot to lose. So I’ll try to make the best possible start to be ahead” – Charles Leclerc concluded.
