Charles Leclerc, some regrets in Montreal
In a championship so far marked by McLaren’s superiority, having the Woking team off the front row and off the podium in Canada was a rare opportunity for the rivals. It was Mercedes and Max Verstappen who seized it — not Ferrari. It’s therefore understandable that the Scuderia returned to Maranello with plenty of regrets, especially since Charles Leclerc’s weekend was far from clean. The Monegasque went into the wall during FP1 in Montreal and missed FP2, which compromised his single-lap preparation — something that later cost him in Q3 with a mistake that ruled him out of pole contention.
After finishing a lackluster fifth in the race, Charles Leclerc didn’t want to quantify how much his mistakes impacted the weekend. Not to make excuses — but rather to emphasize how crucial it is to execute the weekend plan without disruptions.
Charles Leclerc’s words
“I don’t want to speak in ifs and buts. In the end, I didn’t put everything together and I didn’t do my job,” the Ferrari driver said. “Mercedes had the upper hand this weekend, Red Bull is always up there, and McLaren struggled a bit — I think we were there with them. But I don’t know where we would have ended up.” – he pointed out.
In short, Charles Leclerc is taking responsibility for the disappointing result in Canada. Even in a lackluster weekend, the Ferrari driver scored more points than Lewis Hamilton. So far, considering only Grands Prix, Charles Leclerc leads the internal duel 8–1, having only lost out at Imola — partly due to unfortunate timing with the Virtual Safety Car and Safety Car.
