Carlos Sainz has admitted that he has known for months about Sergio Perez’s renewal, while the Spaniard is still searching for a seat for 2025.
As we await the cars to hit the track in Canada at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, the driver market continues to dominate discussions and remains one of the hottest topics of the season. The main protagonist is, of course, Carlos Sainz, who is still looking for a seat for 2025 after announcing his split with Ferrari last February. Rumors continue to swirl that he might pair up with Alexander Albon at Williams next year.
The Spaniard is aware that he doesn’t have many options to choose from, especially in light of the news of Sergio Perez’s contract renewal, which will see him continue racing alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull for another two seasons.
Speaking about the Mexican’s renewal, Sainz reluctantly admitted: “I’ve known for a while, so it’s no surprise to me because obviously, the news or conversations you see today I’ve known for months.”
“This doesn’t mean I won’t have a good future ahead. I’ve talked to many teams that want me a lot, and this makes me feel good as a driver and optimistic about what’s to come. Now it’s about seeing what options are available and choosing the best one.”
The Spaniard also denied recent rumors that he had already signed a contract with Williams: “I haven’t signed anything with Williams yet. Negotiations are still ongoing with the teams we’re talking to. I’m waiting for things to be finalized.”
“I will make my decision when we sit down at the table. So far, I’ve left it to my management and my team to negotiate and put all the options in front of me. Then I’ll have to sit down and make a decision.”
