Carlos Sainz senior ‘envisions’ his fourth Dakar victory
With a 20-minute lead to manage and three stages yet to be contested, Carlos Sainz senior envisions securing his fourth Dakar victory. The Spanish driver has fellow Audi teammates Mattias Ekstrom and Stephane Peterhansel at his service. After this 46th edition, the Four Rings manufacturer will exit the Dakar to focus on Formula 1. It is crucial not to squander Carlos Sainz’s leadership, as he is poised to achieve a prestigious fourth win, having previously triumphed with Volkswagen, Peugeot and Mini.
“Everything is going well; we started competitively with many others. Now let’s see what happens, but we’re following the same strategy. Where do I feel better with the Audi? The car is not much different from last year. In this race, you have to face everything—fast dunes, slow ones, sand, stones. You need a versatile car that performs well everywhere,” stated Carlos Sainz senior as a guest on Sky Sport 24.
Questions about his son Carlos Sainz junior’s 2024 Formula 1 season with Scuderia Ferrari couldn’t be overlooked. The younger Sainz is gearing up for his fourth season as a driver for the Maranello team:
“What I like so much about Carlos is that he keeps improving. He is still young but already has a lot of experience behind him. There are drivers who, at a certain point, stop growing, but he manages to progress every year. I have confidence that Ferrari will make the necessary big step forward let’s hope the 2024 car is better than the SF-23.” – the Spanish rally driver added.
When asked about the advice he would give to Marc Marquez, who is entering a crucial year with Ducati, Carlos Sainz Sr. didn’t sidestep the question: “The only advice I have already given him is to be patient. With the talent he has, he will be competitive in a few races.” – he concluded.
