During Q2 of qualifying for the Japanese GP, a battle unfolded between Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton that caught the attention of all fans and has now led to an investigation and potential penalty. Sainz, in fact, forced the seven-time world champion to abort his lap, jeopardizing his access to Q3. So, what happened?
At the end of Q2, with only a few seconds remaining, Sainz had just completed his lap, leaving him outside of Q3. Hamilton, behind him, was launching his lap to secure a place in Q3. They reached the first corner, and Carlos Sainz impeded Lewis Hamilton, forcing him to abort his lap.

“Too slow, what a mess!” was the Englishman’s comment, as he was unable to continue pushing and was forced to abort his lap. It seems, however, that the Williams team did not warn Sainz about Hamilton being on a flying lap right behind him.
