Everything suggests that Formula 1 will land in Madrid sooner or later for a Grand Prix near IFEMA, but nothing has been decided yet. However, the excitement in the city to host the top motorsport category is palpable in the atmosphere, and someone who knows well everything surrounding the Spanish capital is Carlos Sainz.
During the presentation event of his Audi, the Spanish driver was asked about his thoughts on the Grand Prix of Madrid and if he was enthusiastic about it, and he responded unequivocally: “I think the answer to this question can be guessed. I think the presence of a Grand Prix in Spain is fundamental. I don’t know if there will ultimately be one or two, but if it is confirmed, and it could be a reality, if the Spanish Grand Prix came to Madrid, like any Madrilenian, [I would be] happy. I know what a Grand Prix implies and the impact it leaves on a city.”
However, there is still something to resolve, and that is the contracts, as Barcelona does not want to lose its place on a calendar that is highly sought after by many venues, and it seems highly unlikely that Formula 1 would want to have two races in Spain. This is what the three-time Dakar Rally winner spoke about, noting that there is “no written rule” that mandates holding the most important races in a specific location.
“I think, on the other hand, Catalonia had it for many years and enjoyed it; there is no written rule that it must be in one place for life. It was also in Jerez at the time,” explained the Spanish driver. “These are processes in the world of motorsports that are ongoing, and if it were to happen, I would be very happy. I encourage anyone who has the ability to decide, and I think it’s a private initiative, so no one can point fingers at anyone, and money goes somewhere. I think if it happens, it will be a success.”
Furthermore, the three-time winner of the Dakar Trophy, if the event finally becomes a reality, would see his son racing on the streets of the capital, the place where he grew up: “Madrid, the chosen location, logistically, is unbeatable worldwide, and for Madrid, knowing how this city is, it would be fantastic. And if you add to this, if it happens, unconfirmed, that Carlos [Sainz] will race in Formula 1, competing in your city, which I have experienced in some races or rallies, is fantastic, it’s unique.” – he pointed out.

“If he is lucky enough, he will truly enjoy that Grand Prix, and all Spaniards who want to come to Madrid, we all know it’s a fun city, capable of giving its best, so we’re happy,” said the two-time WRC world champion.
