Scuderia Ferrari is cautious ahead of the next round of the 2021 Formula One season, the Brazilian Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace circuit. Despite the fact that yesterday Charles Leclerc highly praised the Maranello team’s work done in recent months which has resulted in Ferrari regaining third place in the constructors’ championship, both Charles and Carlos did not appear as optimistic as in the last few races.

The Monegasque has already stated that he expects a more competitive McLaren at Interlagos, perhaps even more than the Italian team and Carlos, interviewed at the press conference, confirmed what his teammate reported a few minutes earlier:
“Our simulations they say we will be a little behind this weekend as compared to our rivals. I guess Charles was referring to this. From what emerged from the data, we should have a gap of about half a tenth, not more. It might even turn out to be a tenth, but it should still be pretty narrow. I believe the battle between us will continue until the end of the year. If we then consider the pace shown in Mexico and the podium scored by Gasly in 2019, the AlphaTauri should also be in the mix. This will make the battle more exciting.” – he added.
“We have to see how it goes” he continued, always referring to the fight for third place. “Now we are the prey. So far we have been the hunters and we have given everything for the whole season to overtake McLaren. They have always been very strong. Now we must try to keep the momentum and give it all to the end. The margins will be tight every weekend. In Mexico, too, our lead was not that clear, and in Austin we were a tenth of a second ahead. “
Looking at the track and Interlagos, Carlos Sainz concluded: “This track naturally brings back good memories. Here I got my first podium. Celebrating that result with the team (McLaren, ed) was incredible. The team hadn’t been on the podium in a long time. We had great fun.”
