Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc discusses the Maranello team’s progress during the current season and the preparations for the important 2022 Formula One season:
“From the start of the year, it was clear for Ferrari that winning races would be difficult. We’ve had some nice surprises like Monaco and Baku, we’ve shown that we’re working in the right direction and we’ve made good progress. At the moment we are in third place in the Constructors’ Championship and that is the target we set ourselves at the start of the season. I think things have worked well. It’s clear that our step forward is coming from the engine. We have made good progress in the last six races, we have closed the gap to them and now we are ahead, but we have to continue like this and I am looking forward to racing here. We just have to focus on ourselves and do the best we can. We saw that for me in Russia and for Carlos in Turkey. It’s a step forward that helps us in chasing P3 in the Constructors’ Championship. That was the biggest step forward, the most visible one. But behind the scenes, we’re always trying to optimize the car, to do better and better every weekend and that’s why we’re doing better race after race.”

“It’s very difficult to say what is impressing me about the 2022 car. It will be a very different year compared to the last ones. But I can say that what is impressing me is the work the team is doing. We are improving the way we have been working over the past two years, improving as a team. Difficult now to talk about what is impressing me in the numbers or other things related to 2022. We don’t have any references with the others.”
“Carlos and I are a good team. We are competitive, we push each other race after race. We learn from each other and this is also good for the team to progress. I think Ferrari is happy with us and we are also happy to be teammates now and in the future.”
On the Sprint Race format in Brazil:
“I am happy that Brazil has the new format, because usually Friday is a bit boring, but with qualifying on the first day of the weekend it will be more exciting for everyone. As for Saturday, sprint qualifying needs some tweaking for the future, but I am very excited about this weekend. It’s a bit different from usual and I think it’s a good opportunity for Ferrari to do better.”
