Between Rain and Dry
Friday was not an easy day for all the Formula 1 drivers in Canada. Bad weather, intermittent rain, and changing track surface conditions made life difficult for the teams at the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, as teams and drivers risk facing the crucial phase of the Montreal weekend almost blind in terms of data collected.
However, positive feelings emerged from the Ferrari garage, with Carlos Sainz, coming off a third place in Monaco but only 13th in the final timesheet of the second free practice session for the 2024 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix. However, the timing chart is not very significant on days like yesterday. Speaking at the end of the session, the Spaniard from Ferrari gave encouraging indications about the SF-24 single-seater.
Carlos Sainz’s comments after FP2 in Montreal
“Today was a typical Canadian spring Friday, with the weather constantly changing between dry and wet. Despite the changing track conditions, we managed to do quite a few laps, getting some interesting ones with both dry and intermediate compounds,” said the #55 Ferrari driver. “Obviously, it is not easy to draw conclusions from today. We need to keep focusing on ourselves to be as prepared as possible for qualifying,” the Spanish driver concluded at the end of Friday practice for the Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.
