For Carlos Sainz, it was overall a positive weekend at the Silverstone circuit: his Ferrari secured fifth place and also earned the additional point for the fastest lap of the British Grand Prix.
The road ahead is still long, and Maranello is aware of this, but the British Grand Prix can, and must be, a starting point to begin anew.
Speaking to Sky Sport F1, the Spaniard admitted that the Grand Prix was exactly as he expected. “I tried to keep Oscar Piastri ahead in the DRS, but they were too fast and I couldn’t stay there. From then on, honestly, it was one of the best and most enjoyable races we’ve done since I’ve been at Ferrari. All the pit calls, staying out on slicks, and pitting for the hard tires at the end, we did well.” – he pointed out.
There is some regret in his comments, as what was missing was speed. In fact, “with the slicks, we managed to catch up to Max when the conditions were mixed. I thought the podium was possible, but after the full wet conditions, we were not fast.” – he added.
The strategy worked for Carlos Sainz, but the same couldn’t be said for his teammate Charles Leclerc. Another tough race, another race outside the points.
Can Ferrari really recover? “The right path will be found. We have understood where we went wrong,” emphasized Carlos Sainz with great optimism. “Now we need some time in the wind tunnel and at home to fix the new package so that it truly brings us performance and not the problems we had in the race.” – the Ferrari driver concluded at the end of the British Grand Prix.
