The Prancing Horse is left with a bitter taste at the end of the Silverstone weekend. In the United Kingdom, it’s another difficult weekend for Scuderia Ferrari: Charles Leclerc described his Silverstone race, marked by a failed strategy.
A 14th place that cannot satisfy Ferrari, that’s Charles Leclerc’s position. Silverstone is the stage for yet another red-colored disaster: the SF-24 cannot keep up with the updated Mercedes, Red Bull, and McLaren and has to settle for being the fourth force on British soil.
Adding to the bitterness of a Grand Prix that was already an uphill battle from the start was the strategic choice for Charles Leclerc. In seventh position, behind his teammate Carlos Sainz, a gamble represented the only chance for #16 to get back in the fight for a slightly more ambitious position. The decision came directly from Charles Leclerc on lap 20. An early pit stop for intermediate tires that would prove disastrous, and the race was thrown away.
“It’s been a nightmare for three or four races unfortunately. We need to get out of it. Today we had a good start, then I felt it starting to rain. The team thought it would arrive a lap later, so we chose a somewhat aggressive strategy, but it didn’t pay off. The team told me that was going to rain but sadly it rained later. The call was wrong from my side? It was aggressive with the info I had. It didn’t seem like a bad tactic with the data we had, but we were one of the few cars to stop at that moment, throwing the race down the drain.” – the Monegasque driver said at the end of the British Grand Prix.
