This Formula One season hasn’t gone exactly as planned at Ferrari. Currently, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are in fifth and sixth positions in the overall standings, separated by 8 points ahead of the United States Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place this weekend in Austin. At the beginning of the year, expectations in Maranello were quite different, but they soon had to come to terms with a significant gap compared to Red Bull. For 2024, they expect a completely revamped car that can enable the drivers to contend for the championship. But who would win in a potential duel for the world title between Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc? According to the Spaniard, the fight would be very close.
This year, we’ve seen the two Ferrari drivers battle it out on various occasions. For instance, at Monza, we witnessed a hard-fought battle for the third step on the podium that had all fans holding their breath. Tough but always fair duels, with the two Ferrari aces consistently showing a lot of respect for each other.
In an interview at the Festival dello Sport, Carlos Sainz expressed his opinion on how he would see a potential championship fight between him and Charles Leclerc. “Charles and I are often very close,” said the Spaniard. “We have never fought for the title. At Monza, we fought for third place, and even in the battle for pole position, we weren’t far apart. I think it wouldn’t be any different in the fight for the championship.”
He also had a message for Ferrari and the team. His desire to perform well is evident in his words. “We all want to go in the same direction. We have never lost the belief that we can win, and we will never give up. Ferrari is capable of winning.” – the Spaniard pointed out.

Finally, Carlos Sainz also talked about his relationship with Charles Leclerc: “Charles and I have had three years to get used to each other and build mutual respect. We have participated in many interviews and events together, and we often laugh together. The relationship is definitely good. When time allows, we even call Lando Norris and other drivers to play golf together.”
