During the first press conference of the 2024 Formula 1 pre-season testing session, Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz was certainly one of the protagonists. His departure from the Maranello team in 2025 following Lewis Hamilton’s signing is a constant source of questions about his Formula 1 future. Responding to journalists in the press room, he spoke about the future, the upcoming season, his last with Ferrari, and the level of Max Verstappen. Below are some of the most important comments:
Carlos Sainz talks about his future in Formula 1
During the break in the first day of pre-season testing, talking about his future once he leaves Scuderia Ferrari at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season, Carlos Sainz stated: “I’m looking at all options, talking to all the teams, and I’ll decide, but now the priority is the three days of testing, then there will be plenty of time to sit down and think about the future. What I know is that I have many years ahead of me. I have to aim for a big project, at least three or four seasons because in those years, I will definitely be at my best.” – the former McLaren driver explained.
The Spaniard then added: “Of course, the last two or three races of this year will be very exciting for me, but now with 24 races to go… let’s wait for the end of the year. Now we have to put our heads down and do a great job in the team, which will give me everything I need to fight, if possible, for the championship.” – he pointed out.
Watching the morning test session and how Max Verstappen was racking up laps, also comparing them with those of his Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz understood that 2024 will also be another difficult year to challenge the champions. The Ferrari driver concluded his statement by saying: “A repeat of my victory? I hope for the good of Formula 1 and for the team that there are more victories like mine in Singapore this year, more battles with Max, otherwise, 24 races would be too many.” – the Spanish driver concluded.
