Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz made a mistake in Q3 during Friday’s Sprint, compromising the second row and finishing in fifth place behind Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian driver then proved to be an insurmountable obstacle during the Sprint because Ferrari chose a rather loaded aerodynamic setup to preserve the tires as much as possible.
This choice was confirmed after the Sprint event, and looking ahead to the Miami Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz is confident because he will start one row ahead compared to the Sprint. “When compromises are made in terms of setup, you don’t expect to start behind a Racing Bulls – Carlos Sainz explained in the press conference – and Daniel Ricciardo had great acceleration coming out of slow corners. Sergio Perez with the same power unit managed to overtake him, also because obviously he was less aggressive in defense, for me instead, it was more difficult.” – he pointed out.
“In the race, we will battle with cars that have the same level of downforce – Carlos Sainz added – and this should make the race more straightforward.” – he concluded. According to our telemetry analysis, significant changes were not made to the setup of the Ferrari SF-24.
