Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has dropped a hint that talks over a new deal with the Maranello team are currently ongoing.
Carlos joined the Italian side at the start of the previous season and was a big success in 2021, helping Ferrari finish third in the Formula 1 Constructor Standings after a very close battle with McLaren. At the same time, the Spaniard was able to finish the 2021 Drivers’ Championship ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc, who was in his third season with the Italian side.
Ferrari therefore has all the reasons to want to extend Carlos Sainz’s contract and is confident it’s current lineup will offer the team stability for the following years. Ever since the final Grand Prix of the 2021 Formula One campaign, it has been reported an extended deal between the Maranello team and the Spanish driver was on the table and after the official presentation of the new Ferrari F1-75 car there was an update – of sorts – from Carlos Sainz himself.
“I have to say there’s nothing to say,” he remarked with a smile, as reported by the German edition of Motorsport.com. When asked if both sides intend to continue the partnership, he added that was “pretty clear for Ferrari and me. We are both happy with the situation and want to continue working together.” – the Spanish driver explained.
In terms of when the official announcement could be made, Carlos Sainz continued: “As soon as possible. At the moment, however, nothing is sealed yet.”

During the online launch of the Ferrari F1-75, team principal Mattia Binotto, who took on a presenter-type role for the occasion, confirmed that he has high expectations from Carlos Sainz in the 2022 Formula One season:
“I think when we met and we decided to go together more than a year ago, I think nobody would have expected you to be so fast very soon,” said Mattia Binotto to the driver – “It has not been a surprise to us, but I think you fit very well in the new environment. Since the start of the season you improved and finished in a very strong manner. So I’m expecting you furthermore to raise the bar in 2022.” – the Ferrari boss concluded.
