After Scuderia Ferrari’s poor performance in his home race, the Spanish Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz remains optimistic for the upcoming weekend in Canada. In an interview with the Spanish radio program El Laeguero, the driver speaks more openly about the difficulties the historic Italian team is facing this year.
The updates seem not to be working, while other teams continue to progress. “We are going through a tough period. Red Bull has built a dominant car, Aston Martin is strong, and Mercedes is slowly returning to form,” explains the Ferrari man.
There is a lot of disappointment in Maranello, as he admits: “Ferrari is not where we wanted to be. We are the first to say it. We work tirelessly to improve, but we have to make do with what we have and try to make the most of it.” – the Spaniard admitted.
Carlos Sainz is realistic and knows that it will be difficult to compete with Red Bull in the current state, let alone find a team capable of doing so. However, he doesn’t lose faith: “I firmly believe that we can close the gap with the top of the standings.”
Regarding his home race which was held at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Carlos Sainz confesses that at the beginning of the race, “I was still hopeful.” Then he realized that the pace just wasn’t there. “I could hardly hold my position.”

Fans hoped that the Barcelona circuit could provide answers for Ferrari in terms of performance, especially with the new updates (the highly anticipated Red Bull-inspired floor). However, it wasn’t the case.
Carlos Sainz explains that the Montmelo track “is not good for Ferrari with all those medium and fast corners. We can be more competitive at other circuits.” And he places his hopes on the upcoming race in Canada: “We can reach the podium.”
Meanwhile, the weekend in Montreal is at serious risk of cancellation. In the past few hours, there has been a severe alert due to the fires devastating the eastern coast of Canada. The smoke cloud has even reached New York.
