For now Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has only driven a virtual version of the Maranello team’s new F1-75 car for the 2022 Formula 1 season, but he admitted that his new mount already feels more reactive than last year’s unforgiving car.
The Italian side decided to shift focus on the 2022 Formula 1 project from the early stages of last year and therefore did not invest too many resources in the development of its 2021 challenger in order to prioritize work on the all-new F1-75 that is designed based on Formula One’s new ground effect aerodynamic rules.
At the same time, Scuderia Ferrari has also carried out a significant amount of work in order to improve its hybrid power unit which will feature an updated internal combustion engine.

In a recent interview for the Italian media, Carlos Sainz revealed that the new car will be “very different from the machines seen in recent years” and will be “innovative to the maximum. Up until last year we drove the best cars in F1 history, well balanced but unforgiving,” he said. “If you lost control for an instant, you would crash. This Ferrari seems even more reactive to me, the suspensions are more rigid, we will have to get used to managing it.” – he added.
The Spanish driver also explained that the time required to fully understand and make the most of Ferrari’s new prancing horse will likely depend on how easy it will be to drive: “If it is easy to drive, everything comes faster, the lap times come almost on their own. Then you have to compare the data with those of others. I don’t think the first test in Barcelona will be enough, but in Bahrain we will have some definitive information.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz concluded.
