Formula 1 has finally fired up its engines for the tenth race of the season. As usual, before each session, the FIA officially announced the various components replaced by the teams on their cars. With less than half of the championship completed, many drivers are already at risk of penalties. Here are all the details.
New engine for Carlos Sainz
As reported by the FIA, Ferrari has decided to replace all components of the Spanish driver’s Power Unit, thus installing: the third unit of the internal combustion engine, the third turbocharger, the third MGU-H, the third MGU-K, and the fourth component of the exhaust system.
Despite all these changes, driver number 55 of Scuderia Ferrari HP will not have to serve any grid penalties in the Spanish Grand Prix.
In addition to the Spaniard, his teammate Charles Leclerc and world champion Max Verstappen also had to make changes to their engines. Specifically, the Red Bull driver has installed on his RB20: the fourth unit of the internal combustion engine and the fourth turbocharger, as well as the fourth MGU-K and MGU-H, and the fifth component of the exhaust system. All these modifications put the Dutchman on the verge of a penalty, which could come in the next few weeks or months.
The Monegasque, on the other hand, only replaced the MGU-H, installing the fourth available unit, putting him, like the Red Bull driver, one step away from a penalty.
