A disappointing final part of the championship. This is the sentiment conveyed by Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz at the end of the 2023 Formula 1 season.
Indeed, the last two events have been quite challenging for the Spaniard. If in Las Vegas, a collision with a manhole damaged the SF-23 number 55, with Carlos Sainz receiving a ten-place grid penalty for the battery replacement, in Abu Dhabi, the Ferrari man violently impacted the barriers during the second free practice session, losing much of his confidence, which clearly affected the rest of his weekend at the Yas Marina circuit
“It has been a decent year for me,” explained Carlos Sainz when asked to look back on his 2023 F1 campaign – “I am not happy with the last two races, obviously. They overshadow my season. Our 2023 has been decidedly better than what we saw in the last two GPs.”
“It’s sad to think about how things went wrong in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi. Usually, the end of the season is one of my strengths. For one reason or another, this year it was not.”
Constructors’ Championship, Carlos Sainz disappointed
Beyond the last two GPs, what leaves a bitter taste for the Spaniard is the outcome of the Constructors’ Championship. Ferrari, in fact, missed the chance to secure the second position by just three points.
“I’ll be honest. I am very disappointed, especially considering how close we came. I would like us to sit down and analyze what we could have done better. My feeling with the car was not good at all in Abu Dhabi.” – he pointed out.

Regardless of the season’s finale, with the victory in Singapore, Carlos Sainz was the only driver capable of interrupting Red Bull’s dominance.
At Marina Bay, as well as at Monza, the Spaniard showcased a driving performance of the highest caliber. The introduction of the new floor in Japan, while revitalizing Leclerc, made Carlos less consistent in performance. Perhaps it’s the consistency that the number 55 lacks to prove that he is a title-winning driver. Because the potential is there, for sure.
