Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz finished the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix in P4 on track, after a great recovery drive (he started P15 on the grid). However, as a result of Sebastian Vettel’s Aston Martin being disqualified at the end of the race, Carlos scored another podium finish, which for the moment is still pending as we wait for the final verdict in the Aston Martin’s review bid.
All in all Carlos Sainz does not look back on the first half of the 2021 Formula 1 season with complete satisfaction. The Spanish driver started the championship as a rookie at Ferrari and struggled to keep up with teammate Charles Leclerc in the first races of the year. Despite this start Carlos Sainz is three points ahead of Charles in the world championship as we head into summer break. With 83 points the Spanish driver is currently in sixth place.
Carlos Sainz expects more from himself
While Carlos pinpoints the progress in his performance during the last months, he expects much more from himself in the coming races: “It doesn’t really feel like my strongest season in Formula 1. I feel like I’ve missed out on points and opportunities here and there,” Carlos said, as reported by Motorsport.com.
“I think I said before the race in Hungary that I feel like I haven’t really maxed out for a weekend yet. I haven’t been able to string a whole weekend together as a Ferrari driver and that’s something I used to do well. Maybe it has to do with being part of a new team. It just takes time to maximise weekends.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz concluded.
