Brundle urges Ferrari to avoid one major error after Hamilton’s disappointing opening performances. Ferrari faces a difficult start to the 2025 F1 season.

Ferrari’s Poor Start to the 2025 F1 Season: A Warning from Martin Brundle About Sacrificing Staff

Ferrari have had a disastrous start to the 2025 Formula 1 season, already trailing McLaren by over 150 points after just six races. Many had expected the Maranello team to be McLaren’s closest rival this season, especially after narrowly missing out on the constructors’ championship by just 14 points last year. With Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton—arguably the strongest pairing on the grid—Ferrari had hoped to end their 26-year losing streak.

However, aside from Lewis Hamilton’s Sprint victory in China, the start of the year has been underwhelming. The seven-time world champion has struggled to adapt to the SF-25, while Charles Leclerc has managed only a single podium finish with a third-place result in Saudi Arabia.

The Miami Grand Prix marked a new low for Ferrari, as they appeared slower than even Williams, with both drivers finishing seventh and eighth in the race. Despite finishing third in the Sprint, Lewis Hamilton had what he described as his most frustrating weekend with Ferrari to date.

The Briton was eliminated in Q2 and started 12th for the main race. Ferrari found Hamilton’s qualifying performance “indigestible,” and things didn’t improve much on Sunday. Hamilton expressed his frustration over the radio, struggling with his tires and the car’s understeer as he limped to an eighth-place finish. It’s clear that Ferrari have a significant amount of work ahead of them if they are to make improvements heading into the European part of the season.

Martin Brundle Urges Ferrari Not to Resort to Staff Changes After Poor 2025 Start
Ferrari will need substantial upgrades to the SF-25 to be competitive with McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes. However, the team must first address their tire issues; without fixing these, they won’t be able to fully implement the necessary updates.

The Scuderia are currently working on several solutions, including an unexpected suspension change following their struggles in Miami. While the team focuses on resolving their issues, Martin Brundle has warned Ferrari not to resort to drastic staff changes in response to their disappointing performance.

“Yes, of course they’re going to be super unhappy at Ferrari. They expected to be contenders for the championship, especially with a lineup like Leclerc and Hamilton,” Martin Brundle said during The F1 Show.

“What they mustn’t do is act like a football team and just fire the manager, fire everybody, and change things for the sake of change. That won’t improve anything at all. And we’ve seen teams make that mistake.”

Lewis Hamilton’s Frustration with Ferrari Becomes Clear in Miami
Hamilton entered the 2025 season with high hopes for his new journey with Ferrari. After a highly anticipated off-season, he was hoping his time in Maranello would be successful. However, it’s evident that his optimism has significantly faded.

During the Miami Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton made sarcastic comments over the radio, including telling his race engineer Riccardo Adami to “go on a tea break.” This highlighted the growing sense of frustration within the team, as no one at Ferrari seemed willing to make decisive moves, such as changing the cars during the race.

Damon Hill noted that he had never heard Lewis Hamilton express sarcasm before, and it was clear he was not the only one noticing the Briton’s frustrations. Martin Brundle was also taken aback by Hamilton’s “you guys” comment during the race, which seemed to signal a lack of unity within the team.

Ferrari would have been displeased with the Briton’s sarcastic radio messages, as the team typically doesn’t tolerate such remarks. The relationship between the team and the driver needs to be repaired if they are to close the gap to their competitors.
