The Chinese GP was certainly not the weekend Ferrari had hoped for, especially after Lewis Hamilton‘s victory in the Sprint Race. The Scuderia encountered significant issues starting from Saturday afternoon, with the disqualification of both SF-25s serving as the “perfect” conclusion to a far-from-easy start to 2025.
The Maranello team had arrived at the event as the favorite. The arrival of Lewis Hamilton, combined with extensive celebrations on the eve of the race, led many to believe that having the seven-time Formula 1 world champion would be enough to return to title contention. However, the track revealed a different reality, as the SF-25 showed several weaknesses both in Melbourne and Shanghai.
For this reason, Loic Serra was not present in China. The former Mercedes engineer returned to Maranello to address the problems seen in the first two races of the year, ahead of a Japanese Grand Prix that already seems like a last chance for Ferrari.
Following the events in China, where both Ferrari cars were disqualified after the race, English television presenter, journalist Jeremy Clarkson shares his thoughts on the Maranello team’s result and performance at the Shanghai circuit. “It is important for Formula 1 that Ferrari is competitive. While other teams are businesses, Ferrari is much more—it is heart and soul,” wrote Jeremy Clarkson in The Sun. “In China, it was very significant to see Lewis Hamilton deliver that performance in the Sprint in front of a crowd that views him as a deity. The strange and interesting thing was witnessing the difficulties in qualifying and the race afterward.”
“How is that possible? I understand that a car can be faster on one circuit than another. But on the same track, on the same day? No, that makes no sense,” added the British journalist.
