Brembo Group’s official statement
Charles Leclerc blamed brake issues for the accident that ended his Monaco Grand Prix and revealed that Ferrari already has a solution in place, adding that Lewis Hamilton has been following a different brake direction for the past three races.
Following those comments, Brembo Group released an official statement regarding what happened to the Ferrari driver and the remarks made after the race.
“Brembo Group expresses great surprise regarding what happened to Charles Leclerc during the Monaco Grand Prix and is very surprised by the statements made by the driver after the race.
“The partnership between Brembo and Scuderia Ferrari has continued for more than 50 years and also extends to other brands within the Group, such as AP Racing clutches and Öhlins dampers, confirming the strength and breadth of this collaboration.
“At present, the company does not know the causes of the issues experienced by Charles Leclerc and therefore believes it is premature to make definitive technical assessments before analysing the available data.
“In situations such as this, it is necessary to examine the telemetry data together with the team’s engineers in order to accurately identify the origin of the incident.
“Today, Brembo is a benchmark in Formula 1 and supplies braking technologies to every car on the grid. Over the years, teams competing in the Formula 1 World Championship have continued to choose Brembo solutions, recognising their reliability, innovation and top-level performance.
“The Group will continue to invest in innovation, reliability and performance, while continuing its collaboration with Scuderia Ferrari and all other Formula 1 teams.”
The statement comes after Charles Leclerc described the brake problems experienced during the Monaco Grand Prix as severe enough to become dangerous, claiming that three of the four brakes on his Ferrari were no longer functioning correctly after the Safety Car period.
While Ferrari has indicated that a solution is already available and will be implemented from the Spanish Grand Prix onward, Brembo has made it clear that it believes a complete technical analysis must take place before any definitive conclusions can be drawn regarding the cause of the Monaco incident.
