Brad Pitt, star of the new film “F1 the Movie,” praised F1 drivers and teams for their strong presence and importance during the making of the film. He highlighted that this will be an experience he won’t easily forget.
Before its international release on June 25 and its North American debut on June 27, “F1 the Movie” had its premiere in New York. All the F1 drivers and, of course, all the actors involved in the film walked the red carpet at the event.
The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Brad Pitt, and Lewis Hamilton. The famous American actor plays Sonny Hayes, a former F1 driver who returns to racing with the APXGP team to partner rookie teammate Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris.
Brad Pitt’s words
Pitt thanked the drivers and teams especially because the film was shot during actual race weekends. On Monday night, the American actor praised the involvement of those in the paddock, reflecting on the experience of shooting the film.
The actor stated: “The teams and drivers, all of them welcomed us and are a crucial part of this film. They let us in in a way I never expected. It was an experience I will never forget.”
The 61-year-old also reflected on the challenge of creating a storyline that would strike a balance between newcomers to the sport and longtime fans.
“The hardest thing was developing a story,” Pitt explained. “This sport is so revered and there are so many people who know it well, and then there are so many people who haven’t seen it yet. Trying to explain it without oversimplifying it for the experts, but at the same time offering an invitation and explanation to those who’ve never followed the sport — that was really the hardest part. And I think we did a really great job.”
Private screening in Monaco
At the end of the private screening of F1 the Movie in Monaco last month, the film had already received praise from drivers and team principals for how the F1 world was portrayed.
Esteban Ocon said he considered it “the best racing movie I’ve ever seen.” Pierre Gasly stated it was “a true immersion into the world of Formula 1, for us drivers but also for everyone involved in the sport.”
At the end of the screening, Kimi Antonelli admitted: “I think the film is really good. It’s long, but very well made. I believe it will be a great movie and a beautiful story for anyone to watch. People will really enjoy it.”
