The former Formula 1 boss was recently interviewed by ‘Blick’ to discuss, once again, the potential paths Christian Horner could take now that his long-standing 20-year relationship with Red Bull ended last July.
There are many speculations but few certainties. Some paddock insiders see him stepping into an existing team in the Formula 1 Circus, perhaps helping it grow into a top contender and building a trajectory similar to what he achieved in Milton Keynes. Others believe the British manager has both the skills and financial resources to start a project of his own — essentially building a feared and respected team from scratch on the biggest stage in motorsport.
Ecclestone takes aim at Newey and Elkann
Aware of the speculation and tempted by an image showing Bernie Ecclestone wearing an Aston Martin shirt alongside Christian Horner, Mr. E commented humorously: “Surely another team I should have bought together with Horner. Unfortunately, Adrian Newey seems to have left Red Bull for Aston Martin just to avoid working with Christian, isn’t that right?” as reported by ‘GPBlog.com’.
The journalist then asked which team Bernie Ecclestone would welcome as Christian Horner’s new home. His reply was even bolder: “You can’t rule out Ferrari! There’s chaos in Maranello,” adding that “President Elkann even insults his own drivers now.”
With a personality as strong and outspoken as Bernie Ecclestone’s, it was impossible for him to treat John Elkann’s recent statements indifferently. It is hard to tell whether his comments are advice or a warning for the former Red Bull team principal. We are more inclined to interpret them as the latter.
