Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has firmly defended the company’s first fully electric road car, insisting that many of the criticisms directed at the Ferrari Luce stem from people who have not yet experienced the vehicle firsthand. Speaking during the Motor Valley Fest in Modena, the Ferrari chief made it clear that Maranello remains fully committed to its long-term strategy despite the controversy that has surrounded the unveiling of the highly anticipated electric Ferrari.
The launch of the Ferrari Luce generated intense discussion across the automotive world, with supporters praising Ferrari’s willingness to embrace a new technological era while critics questioned whether a fully electric model can truly reflect the values that have defined the Prancing Horse for decades. The debate intensified following comments from former Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, whose remarks attracted significant attention among Ferrari enthusiasts and industry observers.
Ferrari remains confident despite criticism
Although the unveiling initially triggered concerns among some investors and contributed to a short-term decline in Ferrari’s share price, confidence quickly returned to the market. Ferrari’s stock recovered as analysts and investors continued to back the company’s long-term vision for electrification, luxury mobility and technological innovation.
Throughout the controversy, Benedetto Vigna has maintained a calm and confident stance. Rather than engaging directly with critics, the Ferrari CEO emphasized that the company remains focused on executing its strategy and delivering a product that stays true to Ferrari’s DNA while opening a new chapter in the brand’s history.
The comments were widely interpreted as a response to the criticism voiced by Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, who expressed concerns that the Ferrari Luce could risk diluting the identity and exclusivity that have made Ferrari one of the most admired automotive brands in the world.
Benedetto Vigna believes the Ferrari Luce must be experienced before being judged
During his appearance at the Motor Valley Fest, Benedetto Vigna suggested that many negative reactions were based on assumptions rather than direct knowledge of the car itself. According to the Ferrari CEO, the company continues to receive encouraging feedback from customers, many of whom are already showing strong interest in becoming early owners of Ferrari’s first fully electric vehicle.
He indicated that Ferrari would continue moving forward according to its own vision rather than allowing outside criticism to dictate its decisions. Benedetto Vigna also suggested that once people see the Ferrari Luce in person and understand the engineering solutions behind the project, many of the current misconceptions could disappear.
The Maranello executive stressed that the vehicle cannot be properly evaluated through photographs, speculation or social media reactions alone. In his view, the design, technology and overall concept need to be experienced directly to fully appreciate what Ferrari has developed.
Ferrari insists its EV is unlike any rival electric car
A key part of Benedetto Vigna’s defence centered on Ferrari’s belief that the Luce will stand apart from the growing number of premium electric vehicles entering the market. The Ferrari CEO argued that comparisons with Chinese EV manufacturers or other luxury electric cars fail to recognize the unique characteristics that Ferrari has incorporated into the project.
According to Benedetto Vigna, the Ferrari Luce has been developed with the same attention to detail, performance philosophy and engineering ambition that define every model produced in Maranello. He suggested that once the public sees the finished product, it will become clear that Ferrari has pursued a distinct path rather than following trends established elsewhere in the industry.
This message is particularly important for Ferrari, as maintaining exclusivity and differentiation remains critical while the automotive sector undergoes its biggest technological transformation in decades.
Traditional Ferrari engines remain central to the future
Despite the attention surrounding the Ferrari Luce, Benedetto Vigna also sought to reassure long-time enthusiasts that Ferrari has no intention of abandoning its traditional powertrain heritage. The introduction of a fully electric model does not signal the end of internal combustion engines or hybrid technology within the Ferrari range.

Instead, Ferrari plans to offer customers multiple options, allowing buyers to choose between traditional combustion-powered models, hybrid supercars and fully electric vehicles. This strategy reflects Ferrari’s belief that different technologies can coexist while serving different customer preferences.
For Formula 1 fans who closely follow the activities of Ferrari both on and off the track, the approach mirrors the company’s broader philosophy of embracing innovation without abandoning its historic identity. The same mindset continues to shape Ferrari’s motorsport activities, where Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc remain central to the Scuderia’s ambitions on the Formula 1 grid.
Innovation comes at a price
The issue of pricing has also been widely discussed since the Ferrari Luce was revealed. Benedetto Vigna defended the premium cost expected to be associated with the new model, arguing that groundbreaking technology inevitably requires substantial investment.
According to the Ferrari CEO, innovation should be properly valued because doing otherwise would undermine the efforts of the engineers, suppliers and development teams responsible for creating advanced new technologies. He suggested that premium pricing is not simply about maximizing profit, but also about recognizing the enormous work involved in pushing automotive engineering forward.
As Ferrari prepares for the next phase of its evolution, Benedetto Vigna appears convinced that customer demand will ultimately provide the strongest response to critics. While debate surrounding the Ferrari Luce is likely to continue until the car reaches the road, Maranello remains confident that its first electric vehicle will prove capable of preserving Ferrari’s prestige while opening a new era for one of the world’s most iconic automotive brands.
