Sought after by everyone, the British technician behind Red Bull’s F1 successes will leave Milton Keynes in a few months. Already in Miami, on the eve of the Formula 1 race weekend, Adrian Newey bid farewell to his team amidst applause. In the United States, the 65-year-old car designer said goodbye to the Formula One team: now – until his final departure from the company – he will dedicate himself entirely to the RB17 Hypercar project.
Many teams are courting the esteemed engineer. Numerous rumors have linked Adrian Newey first to Aston Martin, then to Mercedes, but the most credible destination seems to be John Elkann, Benedetto Vigna, and Fred Vasseur’s Ferrari.
Ferrari’s chief executive officer, Benedetto Vigna, commenting on the company’s quarterly results, wanted to clarify the negotiations with Adrian Newey.
Echoing Vice President Piero Ferrari’s comments at the Miami starting grid, Benedetto Vigna did not want to make definitive statements. “He is our client, he participates in the Cavalcade,” stated the Italian manager. “Newspapers write many things…”
Neither confirmations nor denials from the CEO of the red team, who remains in a comfort zone of circumstantial words. In the pre-race in Miami, the Red Bull engineer was caught by photographers closely observing Carlos Sainz’s car, after meeting Fred Vasseur, the Scuderia’s team principal, in the days leading up to the race weekend.

As reported last week, the announcement of HP during the Miami weekend was not the result of a sudden negotiation, but of discussions that had been ongoing for some time. The American multinational IT company was indeed instrumental in the hiring of a heavy hitter like Lewis Hamilton and is playing a significant role in the Newey negotiations – from the financial side.
Benedetto Vigna confirmed the depth of the discussions had with the American company: “The partnership with HP will start in 2025. We have been working on this since October 2023 and the agreement was finalized now. We are pleased because they wanted to enter F1 and chose us.” – Ferrari’s chief executive officer concluded.
