Relive all the thrilling moments of the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix Sprint Race: Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari fought valiantly but ultimately had to yield to the dominant Red Bull of Max Verstappen and the strong McLaren duo. The intense Sprint race at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit just concluded with a fierce battle among Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri, and Lando Norris. Despite an impressive overtaking maneuver on the opening lap, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was unable to maintain the pace set by the top three drivers. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton experienced another challenging race weekend, with his Sprint race being particularly difficult and disappointing.
Green Light for Action
A surprising twist occurred just before the Sprint race start: Pierre Gasly was forced to withdraw from the race due to a hydraulic issue, meaning he could not take the start and thus altering the dynamics of the grid.
A Strong Start!
Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc took immediate advantage of the opening corners, securing first and third positions respectively, while both McLaren drivers were initially left behind. However, Australian driver Oscar Piastri closely followed the four-time World Champion Leclerc. By lap four, Charles Leclerc lost the DRS (Drag Reduction System) advantage to Piastri, allowing Lando Norris to retake third place and extend his lead over the Monegasque driver.
Tightly Packed Field Challenges Hamilton and Antonelli
The close proximity of all drivers, many within DRS range, made it extremely difficult for Lewis Hamilton and young Italian driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli to make significant progress through the field.
Piastri’s struggle during several laps—possibly too many laps spent trailing Max Verstappen—gave Lando Norris the opportunity to re-enter contention for the race victory.
Difficult Qualifying Impacts Russell’s Sprint Race
George Russell also felt the consequences of a challenging qualifying session the previous day. By lap nine of the Belgian GP Sprint Race, the top three drivers remained very close, with McLaren drivers carefully studying the race and waiting for the right moment to challenge Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. The consistent lap times were a positive sign for the teams ahead of the main race, assuming dry conditions prevail. A minor mistake by Verstappen briefly exposed him to an attack from Oscar Piastri, but the reigning World Champion chose to avoid unnecessary risks and stayed firmly in the lead pack.
Positions Frozen by Lap 13
By the thirteenth lap, the positions on the track had stabilized, confirming Max Verstappen’s commanding performance.
The McLaren duo had no answer to the “Super Max” Verstappen’s pace. This Sprint victory marked the first for the new Red Bull team principal, Laurent Mekies, signaling a strong start under his leadership.
