The FIA wants clarity
Despite Max Verstappen returning to pole position (for the sprint) after eight races without, the spotlight is still largely focused on Red Bull and the controversial device that, according to accusations from competitors, can alter the height of the T-tray in parc fermé, obviously providing a myriad of advantages.
Being able to adjust the tray at will allows for the possibility of running in qualifying with a ride height practically scraping the ground, as the infamous device would enable Milton Keynes’ technicians to raise the affected area on Sunday, preventing excessive wear of the plank. However, according to Red Bull management, this device would no longer be operable once the car is assembled and the driver is in the cockpit.
The operation would require several minutes, as mechanics would need to disassemble several panels in the front part of the nose (at the race number) to then leverage underneath the pedal box. Yesterday, during the only practice session and the United States Grand Prix sprint qualifying at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, the FIA’s visit to the Red Bull garage did not go unnoticed. Sky Sports cameras captured Ole Shack, the chief mechanic of the Anglo-Austrian team, showing the federation’s two officials the incriminating mechanism.
The footage, lasting a couple of minutes, quickly made the rounds on social media.
